Why You Should Take That Spring Break Trip

By Kelsey Lange on February 7, 2017

The warm sun beats down on your body while a cool breeze whispers through your hair. A string of palm trees lines your peripheral as the ocean’s crash becomes white noise. You are so happy you finally took the spring break trip you and your friends have been dreaming about.

As your college career goes by, a spring break trip is a topic that will likely come up between your friends. It is easy to dream about going somewhere tropical for the week but this may seem out of reach.

If you have been juggling with the decision to do a trip, this is the sign that you have been waiting for. Whether it be your first spring break or your last, saving up money for memories that you will always remember is well worth the trouble.

This may mean that you have to take control of your group of friends and convince them to get on board. This requires doing your research, which with websites like Travelocity, Tripadvisor, and Expedia becomes simple. Send your friends links to package deals and include pictures of the beach, hotel, and surrounding area.

Taking the initiative among your friends, whether it be a big group or just between your best friend and yourself, will pay off in the long run. All it takes is sitting down and planning out each day, how many days, and making a few phone calls. Your trip will seem closer than you think.

The holidays have just nearly ended, which means that plane ticket prices have lowered. This is the prime time to purchase your trip. It is also a great time to look at package deals. This includes your flight and hotel expenses in one. Purchasing a package usually means that you get a percentage off your purchase and includes bonuses like an airport shuttle to and from the hotel.

If this is your last semester as a college student, take your student status for granted as much as possible. Do not be afraid to ask if a business provides student discounts; you would be surprised where you can get an extra 10 percent off of your purchase, even if it is not blatantly stated. Another reason why you should definitely pull the plug is because it is not as expensive as you think. Even if this means simply traveling within the United States, a quick plane ride can take you to a vacation spot without a doubt. Just because it is spring break doesn’t mean you have to spend all of your savings.

You want to make sure that the place you are visiting is fit for how you picture your spring break. You could image yourself calmly reading a book on the beach or going out every night until four in the morning, or both! There are plenty of party-based resorts that will be crowded with other college students your age. If this is not your scene, a beach less-known for spring break activities would be safer for you.

On top of getting to enjoy a spring break away from home, you get to look forward to it. The beginning of the spring semester can be painful, especially if you live somewhere where you get a lot of winter weather. Aside from maybe getting a snow day, not much positive comes from a snow storm. During these moments of distress, you can always picture yourself on the beach in only a few short weeks.

Spring break always comes in perfect timing during the semester, but it does not always feel like a “spring” break. Some years there might even be snow still on the ground. It is not until much later in the semester that you can finally break out your shorts. So, create a countdown with your friends and check up on it every once and a while to motivate yourself to push through the first six or seven weeks of the semester.

Speaking of motivation, a trip where you will most likely be wearing a bathing suit might motivate you to push forward with your new year’s resolutions. Eating healthy, working out, and getting more sleep are goals most people tend to have at the start to the year. But having an expected date that is much closer than usual will definitely motivate you to get into the shape that you want to be in.

It is also a realistic goal to have if you book your trip at the beginning of the semester, this way you will not feel discouraged. Just remember to not set a goal that is way too hard to obtain like losing 10 pounds before your flight.

If you’ve been looking for a sign to take your dream spring break, here it is! Motivate yourself and your friends to finally do something that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives.
