5 Reasons to Hire a Professional Moving Company

By Lorena Roberts on April 11, 2017

As spring approaches so does the moving season. Whether you’re signing a new lease or paying a down payment, moving is exciting … but draining.

Packing up all of your stuff into boxes, trying to make sure everything is wrapped correctly, organizing to make it easier to unpack – I know what it takes to move. But I’ve only ever moved one person. I can’t imagine moving an entire family of people.

Are you on the fence about whether or not to hire a professional moving company? Here are five reasons why you should absolutely hire the professionals.

1) Efficiency

You’re going to get tired. You’re going to start throwing things around, getting things all unorganized. Then you’re going to be mad at yourself when you go to unpack all of your belongings. If you hire the professionals, they practically never get tired. If you want people to come in and efficiently move you from one place to another, you need to hire the professionals.

What might take you weeks to pack would only take the pros a few days. You’ll use way more boxes than you need to. It’ll be totally inefficient for you to spend your time doing something you could simply hire someone to do for you. Sure, it’s a little bit of money — you might have to penny pinch, but holy goodness it’s worth it.

2) Insurance

You break it, you buy it. That’s the motto the professional movers will live by. They’ll be extra careful. They won’t sling your belongings around all over the place.

When you break something, you’ll just get mad at yourself. You won’t exactly be able to “buy out yourself.” The peace of mind that will come from knowing your things are being taken care of is worth the penny pinching this might require.

3) Equipment

Let’s be honest about this. You’re going to lug these boxes up and down stairs and all over the place. Do you even own the equipment you need to do this on your own? The five most important pieces of equipment that you need in order to execute the perfect move are:

•A dolly

•Moving blankets/pads

•Ropes and straps

•Packing tape and scissors

•Stair roller

If you don’t own these five things, don’t even think about moving by yourself. Hire someone who actually knows what they’re doing. It’s going to save you quite the headache.

4) Family & friends

Wanna keep ‘em? Hire someone else to do your moving. Your family and friends won’t want anything to do with you. Remember the episode from “Friends?” Yeah, no one wants to be Ross. No one wants you to be Ross. Don’t do it. They’ll all end up distancing themselves from you and it may ruin your relationship with them. Just hire someone who knows what they’re doing and move on with your life.

5) No hassle

Think of all the things you could be doing on Move-In day, besides actually moving stuff. You’ll have plenty of other things to be doing the day of the move. You’ll be stressed out and wanting control. Having a professional moving company there to literally take orders from you is what’s going to make you feel best. Trust me, spend the money to hire a professional team. It’ll be so worth it once your move is over.
