Now The Story of a Wealthy Family Who Lost Everything... AND IS COMING BACK
It’s happening.
After rapture scares, natural disasters, the Mayan calendar coming to an end, and Hostess’s bankruptcy, all is finally right with the world.
Kristen Wiig is set to play a young Lucille Bluth on the new season of Arrested Development.
In the upcoming 14-episode season, the Bluth family will be at it again with their self-righteous and ridiculous ways projected on our televisions in only the most perfect of ways: Netflix.
As of May, this new “anthology” will give us another look into the lives of our favorite dysfunctional family featuring a whole new structure. Each episode will be focused on one individual character’s point of view of a routinely ridiculous incident while other characters weave in and out of the scenes sporadically. Over the course of the subsequent episodes, we will revisit these situations through the eyes of other members of the Bluth brigade.
“You’ll see a scene again, and from the other perspective, you’ll get all this new information,” said creator/executive producer Mitchell Hurwitz to Entertainment Weekly. He adds, “If people watch it all at once, it will seem like a giant Arrested Development. It’s really tailored for Netflix.”
It was also revealed that even though Arrested will no longer be subject to the normal restrictions of broadcast networks, the show will still include its trademark “bleeps.”
%^@* Yeah.
What’s supposed to be a precedent for a hopefully upcoming feature film has had the writing influence of devoted fans, bloggers, and the one-and-only Michael Cera.
The producers loved having Cera in the writing room even when it took him away from the actual set. As Hurwitz told The Huffington Post, “He completely understood this complex story, he added to it, he pitched new characters. It became clear that, ‘Wow, this is like his first language.’”
Other interesting facts include:
- Michael Bluth (Jason Batemen) is the only Bluth to appear in every episode.
- While the fourth season will begin where it left off in 2006, it will eventually bring the cast into present day.
- Reruns of Arrested have been some of the most-watched episodes on Netflix’s instant stream, pushing the decision to produce new content for such die-hard fans.
- Netflix outbid Showtime for the rights to the new season.
- Other guest stars include Seth Rogen, Isla Fischer, and of course, Liza Minnelli.
- The final episode of the season will hint at the hopefully ensuing movie by referencing an upcoming family reunion.
So, my fellow fans of Mistah Eff, Cornballers, tea parties in the attic, Dr. Fünke’s 100 Percent Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution, hook-handed mama’s boys, stair-cars, and the infamous TBA syndrome, I invite you to plop down on your couch come May, juice boxes at the ready, and enjoy some good ole family bonding.
After all, we can’t let the vodka go bad.
