I want to go on spring break with friends but am pretty cash-poor. How can I afford to travel without having a lot of money?

You can lower the cost of traveling by quite a lot just by opting for the cheaper option in transportation, where you're staying, and what you're going to be doing. For instance, take a bus instead of flying. The ticket will be cheaper and you won't have to pay for gas, like you would if you drove yourself. Hostels and Airbnb's are much cheaper than hotels, and if you're staying with a large group you might be surprised at how inexpensive it can be. You can also keep travel expenses down by sticking to free activities in the cities that you visit. A lot of cities have free museums that you can check out, and other than that, you can check out the local parks or go for walks to explore the area.
Do your research! If you plan ahead, you can avoid last minute fees and can make sure that you get good prices on flights and hotels.
I'd also recommend staying at a place that has a kitchen, so you can make your own food and not have to go out all the time. Food and getting around (via Uber/taxi) usually rack up a lot, so if you can make food most of the time and stay in a place that is close walking distance to things you and your friends want to do, you'll be saving a lot!!
You can also get a side job and put money towards your spring break. Great jobs for this would be ones where you get tips, like pizza delivery or being a waiter. Make it a goal not to spend ANY of your tips until you go on your trip :)
Traveling does not necessarily have to be expensive so either plan a trip that you can afford with your friends or find little jobs you can do to get the cash on hand that you need in order to make this trip happen. You can tutor or pick up a part time job only until you raise the funds you need or find other little things to do to help you raise the money.
Traveling doesn't have to be expensive! Many of my best memories are doing things that didn't cost any money like sitting in parks and finding free music to listen to. Do your research beforehand and find out what free things the city has to offer. It may be worth it to stay in budget friendly hostels. For airfare, I use an app called Hopper that allows me to track flights and book them at the cheapest time. As a student, you are also eligible for discounts, so always ask! And remember, as tempting as taxis are, walking doesn't cost you a thing.
